We are delighted to be supporting the Tusk Trust Lion Trail, an art trail with a difference. Set up by the Tusk Trust, a British non-profit organisation set up in 1990 to advance wildlife conservation across Africa, the project will showcase the work of some of the world’s most incredible artists and will raise awareness of the urgency to protect all wildlife in Africa and to support the communities who share the landscapes.

From 10th August (World Lion Day), two main lion prides will stalk the streets of London and the Hamptons, New York. While smaller prides and coalitions will pop up in major cities around the world including Bristol and Edinburgh, UK; Nairobi, Kenya; Sydney, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand . The life-size lion sculptures, designed and made by some of the planet’s foremost artists, musicians and sportspeople will tour some notable landmarks around the globe, bringing to life the stories of these iconic predators as well as the people who work tirelessly to protect them. The initiative aims to highlight the threats currently faced by ‘the King of Beasts’, and to raise vital funds to support community conservation and livelihoods impacted by Covid-19 across Africa.

The London Pride

Boodle Hatfield is delighted to sponsor one of the lions in the London pride with the trail prowling past some of the West End’s most iconic cultural landmarks. Our life-sized lion sculpture is being created by London based critically-acclaimed artist, Helen Downie and will be hitting the capital later in August.

Helen is best known for her idiosyncratic and expressive style of painting. Working under the moniker of UnskilledWorker, her paintings are both intimate and evocative, mixing characters and nature with the ephemeral and fantastical. Helen’s work has been described as ‘a melee of ethereality, innocence, inherent flow and instinct that all come together in a spectacular fashion.’ Downie’s work has attracted a large audience worldwide and has appeared in many international publications, including Artnet, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Dazed, Harper’s Bazaar and i-D. Her paintings are collected nationally and internationally and have been exhibited at galleries across the world including London, Hong Kong, Seoul, Madrid, Tokyo and Shanghai.

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing the trail maps and more about the artwork and the #TuskLionTrail movement, including how funds raised will support local conservation and community development both on www.boodlehatfield.com and www.artlawandmore.com . These unique works of art will be on public display from 10th August 2021 and will be auctioned by a leading auction house later in the year.
