New York’s Everson Museum is selling its only Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) painting to fund efforts to diversify the collection. Painted in 1946, ‘Red Composition’ is expected to fetch between $12 million and $18 million (£9 million – £13.5 million) at Christie’s upcoming 20th Century Art auction in New York.

Freud’s ‘Pregnant Girl’ sells for £16.1m
There was some sunshine at Sotheby’s London (10 February) despite the gloomy forecast for the London auction season, when Lucian Freud’s ‘Pregnant Girl’ (1960-61) sold for an eye-watering £16.1 million (including buyer’s premium).
Six buyers fought over the portrait of the artist’s teenage lover, Bernadine Coverley. The sale price far surpassed the estimated £7-10 million, which the painting had been expected to fetch. Continue reading
Rare paintings by Lucian Freud head to auction
With London’s auction season fast upon us, art enthusiasts are gearing up for the opportunity to view three works by Lucian Freud, one of which is tipped to fetch £10 million.
‘Pregnant Girl’ (1960-61), Freud’s portrait of his teenage lover Bernadine Coverley while she was pregnant with their daughter Bella goes on sale at Sotheby’s on 10 February 2016.
