Highly anticipated auction to include one of Picasso’s earliest cubist paintings

Three iconic portraits of women are expected to fetch a total of nearly £68 million at Sotheby’s London Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale tomorrow (21 June 2016).

After at least a decade off the market, the three artworks by Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani and Auguste Rodin will go under the hammer alongside twenty-two other pieces including paintings, sculptures and works on paper. Total sales on the night are estimated to reach £77 million, which means the three highlighted works will account for roughly 87.5% of the auction’s value. Continue reading

Rodin sculpture sells for £11.6m at auction

A sculpture of a nude woman by Auguste Rodin, which once belonged to actor Sylvester Stallone set a new record for the artist at auction in London on Wednesday night (3 February).

‘Iris, Messagère des adieux’ (1902-05) sold for £11.6 million during Sotheby’s evening sale after only five minutes of bidding. Expected to fetch between £6-8 million, it surpassed the previous auction record for Rodin held by his sculpture of Eve, which sold for £9.6 million in New York in 2008. The winning bidder for ‘Iris’ is believed to have been Ben Frija, a dealer from Oslo.  Continue reading
